The Berks County Area Agency on Aging was organized in 1974. It is one of 52 Area Agencies on Aging in Pennsylvania. The agency is responsible for developing and coordinating a comprehensive service system to meet the needs of Berks County's older residents.
The mission of the Berks County Area Agency on Aging is to provide services, based on need, to all older Berks County residents and those with disabilities; empowering self-determination; advocating for their rights; and promoting the highest possible level of independence.
There is an Area Agency on Aging Advisory Council that is comprised of members of the Berks County community. The council provides input and recommendations on agency policies, procedures & conducts the agency four-year plan meeting and the annual public hearing which is held each spring to invite community participation and comments on aging services. Members take a lead role in advocating on issues impacting older people.
