Berks County Sheriff Explorer Post 027

Sheriff Eric J. Weaknecht began an Explorer Post in 2012 for young adults interested in a law enforcement career. This Post will teach the Explorers what it takes to be a law enforcement officer by offering hands on training and experience. Explorers will learn about the BCSO as well as other law enforcement agencies including the US Marshal’s Office, Pennsylvania State Police, Berks County District Attorney’s Office, Berks County Jail System, State and County Parole and Juvenile Probation Office, just to name a few.  Explorers will also play a key role in the BCSO by assisting in outreach programs and representing the office at events and competitions.
Explorers are between the ages of 14 and 20 years old and come from all areas of the county.
The Berks County Sheriff’s Office Explorer Post number (#027) was selected in honor of Deputy Sheriff Kyle Pagerly who was killed in the line of duty on June 29, 2011 while serving a felony warrant in Northern Berks County. Deputy Pagerly was enrolled to help with the Post's startup prior to his death.
Enrollment interest for 2014 has doubled and, although the reputation of the program is reaching more young people interested in learning about law enforcement-related matters, staffing requirements limit our ability to accept more than 30 new Explorers for 2014.  Interested candidates are now required to complete an application for enrollment which must be received in the Office no later than December 16, 2013.  The application is available for download at Explorer Post Application 2013.pdfExplorer Post Application 2013.pdf or by calling 610-478-6240 ext. 3262.  Invitations to the first meeting in January, 2014 will be mailed the week of December 30, 2013.
Interested applicants can also email with name, age, address, phone number and email address to receive information and an application.
