The staff complement of the Berks County Office of Aging is currently 52 full time staff, 2 part time staff, and 8 RN Consultants. Structurally, the agency is made up of two major units: Administration, and Client Services, along with three separate programs, Quality Assurance, FGP and Ombudsman. The Directors of Administration, and Client Services both report to the Executive Director. The Quality Assurance Coordinator and Ombudsmen report to the Executive Director. The directors of Administration, and Client Services meet on a regular basis with the Executive Director, to exchange information and ideas and to coordinate the agency's activities. Staff participation on other advisory boards and councils has strengthened relationships with various community organizations and helps to ensure that the needs of older people are considered in program planning and implementation outside the traditional network. Staff provides a wide range of training to the community on age related concerns. Through the development and growth of programs such as Intake, Assessment, Aging Waiver, Family Caregiver Support, there have been greater opportunities to work with social, medical and rehabilitative service providers in acute care, long term care, and community settings.
CLIENT SERVICES
The Client Services Unit is responsible for the in-home services provided to the elderly in the County. Professionals provide assessment and care management services directly and through subcontracts. The major program areas include Intake and Referral, Assessment, Care Management, Aging Waiver, Pre-admission Assessment for Medical Assistance eligible consumers, Older Adult Protective Services, Guardianship services, and the Family Caregiver Support program. The Client Services Unit is divided into six program areas with six supervisors who report to the Director of Client Services. The agency anticipates continued growth in these program areas due to the increased longevity of the aging population.
