               US Department of Health that performs specific functions
               concerning the effect on public health of hazardous
               substances in the environment.
 
   Arbor Day Foundation : promotes trees and forests for communities.
 
   Audubon: focuses on conserving and restoring ecosystems focusing
               on birds and other wildlife.
 
               View pollution and weather data in Berks and neighboring counties
 
   Berks County Conservancy:an organization preserving agricultural
               land and open space in Berks County; protecting the quality
               of streams and ground water; preserving historic landmarks
               and scenic landscapes.
   
   Bowman's Hill Wildflower Preserve: showcases an extraordinary diversity
               of plants native to Pennsylvania and the Delaware Valley.  The
               Preserve provides many educational opportunities involving
               native plants and ecology. 
 
   Children's Environmental Health Network: a national multi-disciplinary
               organization whose mission is to protect the fetus and the
               child from environmental health hazards and promote a
               healthy environment.
 
   Capital Reports - Environmental: reports on State and Federal
               environmental issues.
 
               Department of Transportation's organization addressing
               the transportations sectors relationship to global warming.  
 
   Center for Disease Control : The Centers for Disease Control and
               Prevention (CDC)is recognized as the lead federal agency
               for protecting the health and safety of people - at home
               and abroad, providing credible information to enhance
               health decisions, and promoting health through strong partnerships.
 
   Chidlren's Environmental Health Institute: The Children's Environmental Health
               Institute (CEHI) has been established to identify, validate, and
               develop solutions to address adverse health effects to children
               occurring as a consequence of exposure to hazardous environmental
               substances.
 
   Chidlren's Health Environmental Coalition: CHEC is a national non-profit
               organization dedicated to educating the public, specifically parents
               and caregivers, about environmental toxins that affect children's
               health.
 
   Clean Air Council: this organization addresses air quality issues within
               Pennsylvania.
 
   Collaborative on Health & The Environment:  The Collaborative on Health
               and the Environment (CHE) aims to help to take environmental
               health efforts into a new era of improved scientific understanding,
               cooperation among diverse interests sharing similar goals, and better
               policies and preventive efforts
 
               The Collaborative on Health and the Environment, is an
               active network of organizations and individuals sharing the
               basic goal of improving human health by reducing exposure
               to toxicants in our bodies and the environment.
               
 
   Department of Environmental Protection: The Pennsylvania agency
               responsible for overseeing environmental protection
               in Pennsylvania. Listed below are the four agencies of the PA
               DEP.
 
                     The department within the PA DEP overseeing waste,
                     storage tanks and recycling within Pennsylvania.
 
         Department of Air Quality: the department within the PA DEP
                     responsible for addressing air quality issues within
                     Pennsylvania.
 
         Office of Mineral Resources Management:  implements and regulates
                     mineral extraction, oil, gas and coal within PA.
   
         Office of Water Management: the department within the DEP
                     responsible for protecting Pennsylvania's water resources.
 
               The Pennsylvania agency responsible for maintaining states
               parks, forests and encouraging conservation programs
               within Pennsylvania.
 
   Earth Share : a nationwide network of America's leading environmental
               and conservation organizations.
 
   Ecology & Society Journal : is an electronic, peer-reviewed, multi-disciplinary
               journal devoted to the rapid dissemination of current research.
 
   Environmental Defense: a National environmental advocacy group.    
 
   Environmental Literacy Council: the Council gives teachers the tools
               to help students develop environmental literacy.
 
   Environmental Media Services : EMS is a nonprofit communications
               clearinghouse dedicated to expanding media coverage of 
               environmental and public health issues.
 
   Environmental News Network : an organization focused on environmental
               news throughout the world.  ENN produces TV and radio shows
               on environmental issues.
 
   Environmental News Service: a daily international wire service on
               environmental issues.
 
   Environmental Protection Agency: the Federal Agency overseeing
               environmental issues in the United States.
            
            National Center for Environmental Economics: Analyzes
                  relationships between the economy, environmental health,
                  and environmental pollution control.
 
                  America's Children and the Environment: America’s
                     Children and the Environment brings together, in
                     one place, quantitative information from a variety
                     of sources to show trends in levels of environmental
                     contaminants in air, water, food, and soil;
                     concentrations of contaminants measured in the
                     bodies of mothers and children; and childhood
                     diseases that may be influenced by environmental
                     factors.               
 
            Office of Research and Development: this is the EPA's scientific arm.
                     ORD conducts research in ways to prevent pollution and protect
                     human health. 
            
   Envirolink: provides access to thousands of online environmental resources
               since 1991.  
 
   Europa Environment : the European Unions organization geared towards
               environmental issues in Europe.
 
   GLOBE : is a worldwide hands-on, primary and secondary school-based
               education and science program supported by NASA, NSF and
               the US State Department in partnership with colleges,
               universities within the US and 100 other countries. 
 
   Hawk Mountain Sanctuary: A nationally recognized organization (located in
               Berks County, PA) whose mission is to foster the conservation of
               birds of prey worldwide and to create a better understanding of,
               and further the conservation of, the natural environment,
               particularly the Central Appalachian region.
 
   Institute for Children's Environmental Health (ICEH): non-profit educational
               organization working to ensure a healthy, just and sustainable
               future for children.

   Joint Legislative Conservation Committee: conducts continuing studies of
               air and water pollution laws in Pennsylvania and their enforcement
               and recommends needed changes to the General Assembly of

               Program of the USDA and EPA addressing environmental issues
               in ad. business.
 
   Local Government Environmental Assistance Network: plain English definitions
               of environmental laws.
 
   Mid-Atlantic / Northeast Visibility Union: a consortium of seven states
               addressing regional haze issues.
 
   National Archives and Records Administration (NARA): is an independent
               Federal agency that preserves our nation's history and defines
               us as a people by overseeing the management of all Federal records.
 
   National Council for Science and the Environment: The Council mobilizes key
                  communities, including Congress, government agencies, academia, civil
                  society, business, media, and the public to support policies and programs
                  that increase the role of science in achieving environmental goals.       
     
   National Environmental Data Index:The National Environmental Data Index
               (NEDI) provides direct access to environmental data and
               information descriptions, and thereby, improves awareness of
               and facilitates access to data and information holdings.
 
               Department of Health.
 
   National Library of Medicine: the world's largest medical library hosted by
               National Institute of Health an agency under the US Department of
               Health and Human Services. 
            
           TOXMAP: a Geographic Information System (GIS) from the National
               Library of Medicine (NLM) that uses maps of the United States to
               help users explore data from the EPA's toxic release inventory.
 
           TOXTOWN: An introduction to toxic chemicals and environmental health
               risks you might encounter in everyday life, in everyday places.
 
   National Ocean and Atmospheric Administration: (NOAA) conducts research
               and gathers data about the global oceans, atmosphere, space,
               and sun, and applies this knowledge to science and service that
               touch the lives of all Americans.
 
   National Technical Information Service: serves our nation as the largest
               central resource for government-funded scientific, technical,
               engineering, and business related information available today.
 
   National Resources Defense Council: an environmental organization geared
               towards litigation to protect the environment.
 
   Pennfuture:an advocacy group addressing issues in PA from an environmental
               perspective.
 
               This is an association that provides education to on land 
               and water conservation.
 
               environmental education of all partners in Pennsylvania by
               supporting and facilitating their efforts
 
   Pennsylvania Department of Labor and Industry: Governs the Commonwealth's
               right to know policy.
 
   Pennsylvania Environmental Council: plays an active role in
               environmental policy decisions in Harrisburg, PA.
 
   Pennsylvania Environmental Network: is a wide network of
               community environmental groups.
 
               Mission is to broaden the understanding of the differences between a child
               and an adult and how to create solutions to protect children from environmental
               harms via education, outreach and research.
 
   Penn State Cooperative Extension in Berks County: gives local residents easy
               access to the resources and expertise of the Pennsylvania State
               University.
 
   Plant Conservation Alliance: The PCA is a consortium of ten federal
               government member agencies and over 220 non-federal
               Cooperators representing various disciplines within the
               conservation field with the focus on native plant conservation.
 
   Planet Ark: is the home of Reuters Daily Environmental News.
 
   Schuylkill River Greenway Association: an organization dedicated to
               protecting the Schuylkill river as a natural, recreation and
               historic asset for Southeastern Pennsylvania.
 
   Science.gov - environment:  has a wide public access and a unified
               search of the government’s vast stores of scientific and
               technical information.
 
   Scorecard:a website run by Environmental Defense (an
               environmental advocacy group) that rates the environmental
               health of communities.
 
   Smithsonian Ecology and Environment: the Smithsonian Institute's
               Department of Science and Technology’s department on
               Environment.
 
   TerraServer: The TerraServer-USA Web site is one of the world's largest
               online databases, providing free public access to a vast data
               store of maps and aerial photographs of the United States.
 
   United Nations Environment Programme: provides leadership and encourages
               partnerships in caring for the environment by inspiring, informing,
               and enabling nations and peoples to improve their quality of life
               without compromising that of future generations.
   
   U.S. Department of Agriculture: USDA is the country's largest conservation
               agency, encouraging voluntary efforts to protect soil, water, and
               wildlife.  It is responsible for the food safety of meats, food stamp
               programs, food and agriculture safety.
 
         USDA Natural Resources Conservation Service:provides leadership in
               a partnership effort to help people conserve, maintain, and improve
                our natural resources and environment.
 
   U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service: the Federal agency overseeing the conservation
               of fish, wildlife, plants and their habitats.
         
         U.S. Fish & Wildlife Branch of Habitat Assessment: contains a wetlands
               mapper.
 
   U.S. Geological Services : created in 1879 by Congress and is the sole
               science agency in the department of the Interior that operates
               as an independent fact-finding agency that collects, monitors,
               analyzes, and provides scientific understanding about natural
               resource conditions, issues, and problems.
 
         U.S.G.S. Biological Services: works with others to provide the scientific
               understanding and technologies needed to support the sound
               management and conservation of our Nation's biological resources.
 
         U.S.G.S Geology:responsibilities are based in geology and houses GEODE,
               one of the most impressive mapping devices on the net.
 
         U.S.G.S. Geography: Geography, one of the four science disciplines in
               the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS), is responsible for building,
               maintaining, and applying The National Map.
 
         U.S.G.S. Water:The Water Resources mission is to provide water
               information that benefits the Nation's citizens.
