Juveniles who commit crimes involving victims are Court Ordered to attend the Berks County Juvenile Probation Office's Impact of Crime class. This class is taught by the two Victim/Witness Coordinators and also by two probation officers who are trained in the Statewide Impact of Crime curriculum. The class is four hours in length and taught on consecutive days, for two hours each session. Juveniles are instructed in the Balanced and Restorative Justice concept, victim empathy, how to write a proper apology letter and the types of feelings and emotions their victims may go through. They are also taught how the crime they committed affects not only their victim, but the community and the juvenile's family as well.
