The Personal Responsibility Program is offered by the Berks County Juvenile Probation Office and is designed around two main concepts: behavior is the result of choice and each person is responsible for their actions. The program focuses on those areas (e.g. good decision making) in which skills and a high level of awareness generally lead to responsible behavior and in which deficits and a lack of awareness can result in irresponsible or criminal behavior.
A juvenile probation officer acts as a facilitator and each session of the program lasts one hour and fifteen minutes. The program is offered on the same evening for four consecutive weeks and the juvenile's parents and other interested persons are welcomed and encouraged to attend.
Some topics include: accepting responsibility, anger management, concept of choice in human behavior, and decision making.
