Mission and Goal Statement
Court of Common Pleas Library
23rd District, Berks County
The Library of the Berks County Court of Common Pleas is mandated by the Pennsylvania judicial code to operate "in conformity with general rules or rules of the court of common pleas of the judicial district embracing the county." (42 P.C.S.A. ยง3724). The Library, under the supervision of the District Court Administrator, is an integral part of the judicial system. As such, it is the mission of the Library to strive to fulfill the legal research needs of the judicial system at the trial court level and, as the legal resource center of the county, to serve the general public. Complete information service, including on-line database searching and interlibrary loan, is provided for the Library's primary user groups: the court and its personnel, local government officials, staffs of the prosecutor and public defender, and local bar members. Litigants, county jail inmates, students, and the general public are provided basic research assistance and access to the Library's non-fee based resources. It is the goal of the Library to comply to the greatest extent possible with the County Law Library Standards of the American Association of Law Libraries.
