Josue E. Vargas-Esteves
On August 6, 2017, Berks County District Attorney Detectives were contacted by the Reading Police Department regarding allegations of sexual assault against a 16 year-old female by two individuals.
Detectives learned that the 16 year-old victim and her family were visiting Reading to attend a family birthday party. During the party, the victim was sexually assaulted by Josue Vargas-Estevez and a male juvenile. The victim had visible bruises on and around her breasts and bite marks on her face and neck area.
During the investigation, detectives obtained statements from Vargas-Estevez and the male juvenile. Both individuals admitted to their involvement in the assault of the victim.
An arrest warrant was issued by Vargas-Estevez by Magisterial District Judge Phyllis Kowalski.
On November 6, 2017, Vargas-Estevez was arrested at his place of employment without incident. He was then transported to the Berks County Sheriff's Central Processing Unit where the defendant was processed and arraigned. Bail was set at $100,000. He was committed to the Berks County Jail in lieu of that bail.
On November 8, 2017, the juvenile male surrendered to detectives at their office. He was then turned over to the Berks County Juvenile Probation Office for detainment pending a detention hearing.
