Child Abuse Arrest - Hamburg High School Teacher
On Thursday, September 13, 2018, the Berks County District Attorney's Office Child Abuse Unit received information of a possible intimate relationship involving a teacher and a male juvenile/student in the Hamburg School District. During the investigation, Detectives learned that the defendant, Holly Anne Smith, was a teacher with the Hamburg School District and she was having an intimate relationship with a male juvenile student.
The Children's Alliance Center performed a forensic interview of the victim. During the interview, the victim disclosed having an intimate relationship with the defendant (teacher) in this case. The victim disclosed he met the defendant when he enrolled in the Hamburg School District. The victim, who is 16 years of age, disclosed the relationship was ongoing for the last 5 months.
On Monday, October 1, 2018, the Berks County Detectives Office obtained a warrant of arrest from Magisterial District Judge Andrea J. Book for the defendant on the charges of:
- Institutional Sexual Assault - Schools
- Corruption of Minors
- Unlawful Contact With a Minor
- Endangering the Welfare of Children
Detectives and the defendant's attorney are making arrangements for the defendant to surrender herself. At that time, the defendant will be processed at the Berks County Sheriff's Processing Center and will be arraigned before a Magisterial District Judge.
UPDATE: The defendant was arraigned on October 9, 2018, and bail was set at $25,000 unsecured. She remains free on bail waiting further court action.
