Detectives from our District Attorney's Child Abuse Unit and a Lower Heidelberg Township Detective from the Major Crime Task Force arrested Jerry Irwin, age 53, in connection with a child pornography investigation.
In May 2013, Detectives initiated an investigation into sharing of child pornography via the internet. During the investigation, Detectives identified a computer with an Internet Protocol (IP) Address of a potential candidate for files of investigative interest.
On September 18, 2013, Detectives obtained and served a search warrant for the residence of 216 North 6th Street, 2nd & 3rd floor apartments, Reading, PA 19601. Jerry Irwin was present at this residence. Detectives seized a laptop and cellular phone. Following the seizure of Irwin's laptop and cellular phone, a computer forensic examination was conducted. As a result of that examination, Detectives recovered in excess of 50 digital images and digital photographs of child pornography.
On September 24, 2013, Detectives obtained a warrant of arrest for Jerry Irwin on the aforementioned charges. The warrant was issued by Magisterial District Judge Alvin Robinson. The morning of September 26, 2013, at 8:30 a.m., Irwin surrended to Berks County Detectives at their office. Irwin was accompanied by his attorney.
