On November 27, 2013, detectives from the Berks County District Attorney's Child Abuse Unit initiated an investigation after receiving a complaint from the Berks County Children and Youth Services relative to a sexual abuse case of a male juvenile. During the investigation, detectives learned that a seventeen (17) year old Reading Senior High School student was sexually abused by the Color Guard Instructor for the Reading Senior High Schoolband. These incidents occurred from October 2011 through to April 2012. The victim was a band member at the time of the reported incidents.
The defendant in this case was identified as Jennifer Wolfe, 32 years of age from Richland, PA. The defendant was an employee of the Reading School District as the Color Guard Instructor for Reading High School band during the years of 2011 to 2013.
The victim first met the defendant when he was 16 years of age and a member of the Reading High School Band. The defendant and victim exchanged cell phone numbers, which led to conversations and meetings. During these meetings, the defendant would pick-up the victim in her personal vehicle at a predetermined location away from the school. Then, she would drive to her home in Wernersville. At the home, the defendant would engage in sexual activity with the victim. On one occasion the defendant supplied the victim with an alcoholic drink containing whiskey and coke, and then engaged in sexual contact with the victim.
On April 24, 2014, detectives obtained a warrant of arrest for Jennifer Wolfe for the charges of Institutional Sexual Assault and Endangering the Welfare of Children and Corruption of Minors. The warrant was issued by Magisterial District Judge Ann L. Young.
At approximately 2:15 p.m. on April 24, 2014, Wolfe was arrested without incident. She was transported to the Sheriff's Department for processing and video arraignment. Bail was set at $10,000 and she was committed to Berks County Jail. She posted bail on April 25, 2014, and was released.
