On Monday, March 11, 2019, at approximately 6:15 P.M., a Boyertown Police Officer was detailed to 211 E. 3rd Street, Boyertown, Berks County, Pennsylvania, relative to a Domestic which was in progress. 
Upon arrival, the officer entered the residence and located the victim, identified as Farrah Wertz, who was seated on a chair with her right leg elevated, icing her right foot.  Farrah reported that she was involved in a verbal dispute with her current boyfriend, Scott Kenneth Wiley.  During the dispute, Scott Wiley approached her from behind and swept her feet out from under her causing her to fall to the floor.  Subsequently, she experienced extreme pain and was unable to put pressure on her right leg.  The Officer observed Farrah Wertz’s right ankle to be swollen. 
Additionally, Farrah Wertz reported that Scott Wiley grabbed her (12) twelve year old autistic son and threw him to the floor.  As a result, her son sustained a scratch to his chest.
EMS personnel from the Boyertown Lions Community Ambulance Services responded to the residence and arrived shortly after the police arrival.
The victim, Farrah Wertz, told Witness #1 (EMT) and Witness #2 (Paramedic) that Scott Wiley, approached her from behind and did a leg sweep, kicking her feet out from under her, causing her to fall to the floor. She also advised them that she could not put weight on her foot.
Farrah Wertz also told Witness #2 (Paramedic) that the defendant also kicked her leg after the leg sweep. Witness #2 also reported observing golf ball sized swelling near the top of her ankle.
Farrah Wertz was transported via Boyertown Lions Community Ambulance Services to the Emergency Room at the Pottstown Hospital for further medical care and treatment. She was diagnosed as having a “fracture of the right fibula” which required surgery. After receiving medical care and treatment at Pottstown Hospital, she was discharged.
Farrah Wertz’s son did not receive any medical treatment.
Scott Wiley was arrested and taken into custody at the residence.  He was charged with Simple Assault and Harassment.  He was later arraigned before Senior Magisterial District Judge Thomas M. Gauby Sr.  Bail was set at $2,500.  The defendant was released on March 12, 2019 after posting bail.  
On Friday, March 15, 2019, the victim, Farrah Wertz, underwent surgery to repair the fracture to her right fibula. During this surgery, the Surgeon/Physician placed (2) two screws and a plate in her right leg.
On Friday, March 29, 2019, at approximately 6:50 A.M., a Boyertown Police Officer responded to 211 E. 3rd Street, Boyertown, Berks County, Pennsylvania, to assist EMS relative to a female in respiratory distress. The Boyertown Police Officer was the first responder to arrive at the residence.
Upon entering the residence, the officer located the victim, lying in bed, gasping for air. The officer moved the victim to the floor and immediately started performing Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation. EMS personnel from Boyertown Lions Community Ambulance Services arrived at the scene and took over the medical care and continued performing CPR on Farrah Wertz.
Farrah Wertz was removed from the residence and immediately transported via Boyertown Lions Community Ambulance Services to the Emergency Room at the Lehigh Valley Hospital.
On Friday, March 29, 2019, at approximately 7:56 A.M., the ambulance arrived at Lehigh Valley Hospital.
The victim, Farrah Wertz, passed away at 9:02 A.M.
On Friday afternoon, March 29, 2019, the Boyertown Police Department notified the Berks County Detectives Office of the death of Farrah Wertz, and requested assistance. The Berks County Detectives Office prioritized this investigation and became the lead investigative agency.
On Saturday, March 30, 2019, Dr. Samuel Land, Forensic Pathologist, performed an Autopsy on the victim, Farrah Wertz. She was (42) forty two years old.
Based on the physical examination of the victim, Farrah Wertz, as well as the results of the Autopsy, Dr. Samuel Land concluded the Cause of Death was “Pulmonary Embolism due to deep vein thrombosis complications from blunt force trauma to the right lower extremity.”
The Manner of Death has been ruled Homicide.
On Thursday, April 4, 2019, the Berks County Detectives filed the aforementioned criminal charges at Magisterial District Judge Michael Hartman’s Office. M.D.J. Hartman issued a Murder Warrant for the defendant, Scott Kenneth Wiley.
Today, April 6, 2019 at approximately 5:15 PM, Berks County Detectives apprehended and arrested the defendant in the 400 block Cherry Lane Road, East Stroudsburg, PA 18301.  He was transported to the Berks County Sheriff’s Department Central Processing Unit for processing.

As in every criminal case, the fact that an arrest has occurred or a complaint has been filed is merely an accusation, and the defendant Scott Kenneth Wiley, is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
