In January 2014, narcotics detectives with the District Attorney's Drug Trask Force initiated a drug investigation involving cocaine and marijuana being sold out of 1031 Scott Street, Reading, Berks County, Pennsylvania. The investigation was based on confidential sources and citizens' complaints concerning drug trafficking in their neighborhood.
During the investigation, detectives learned that Noel Santiago, 35 years of age, of 1031 Scott Street, Reading, Pennsylvania, was responsible for dealing cocaine, marijuana and heroin to and from his home in the Oakbrook Housing Projects, Reading, Berks County. Santiago would take cellular telephone orders from his customers for cocaine, marijuana, and heroin. After the orders were placed, Santiago would direct the customers to come to his home at 1031 Scott Street, Reading, Pennsylvania. Subsequently, undercover detectives made five undercover purchases from Santiago at his home. Two of the purchases were for cocaine and three for marijuana. The value of the purchases ranged from $20 to $40 in U.S. Currency.
On February 20, 2014, detectives served a search warrant at 1031 Scott Street, Reading, Berks County. The search warrant was for the following Schedule I & II controlled substances: cocaine and marijuana and related paraphernalia. The warrant was issued by Magisterial District Judge Stuart D. Kennedy.
As a result of the search, the following items were seized:
- 5 packets of K-2 (street value of $200.00)
- 1 packet of suspected cocaine (street value $40.00)
- 1 workable cellular telephone
- 1 digital scale
- documents related to suspects
- $700.00 U.S. Currency (believed to be proceeds from previous cocaine & marijuana sales)
Santiago was present at the time of the search warrant and was placed under arrest. He was transported to the Berks County Sheriff's Department Central Processing Center for processing and arraignment. He was arraigned by Magisterial District Judge William Hall and bail was set at $180,000. Santiago was committed to Berks County Jail.
The investigation is continuing and suspect, Zaida Mendez-Roldan will be charged with Possession of Cocaine at a later date.
