In January of 2018, the Berks County District Attorney's Drug Task Force Detectives initiated a drug investigation involving the above mentioned defendants after receiving confidential information that the defendants were trafficking controlled substances within the City of Reading.

During the past two months, undercover detectives purchased amounts of heroin and cocaine from Pedro Acevedo in the area of 511 Moss Street, Reading. Additionally, during the course of the investigation, detectives learned that the defendants utilized 511 Moss Street to store and facilitate the sale of controlled substances.

On Tuesday, February 13, 2018, detectives obtained a search warrant from District Judge Stuart D. Kennedy for the residence at 511 Moss Street, Reading.

On Wednesday, February 14, 2018, at approximately 6:20 a.m., detectives served the search warrant for the residence of 511 Moss Street, Reading. The defendants, Pedro Acevedo and Joel Maysonet-Osorio were found inside the home and placed under arrest.

As a result of the search warrant, detectives found and seized the following items:

  • stolen 9 mm Beretta handgun
  • $215.00 of U.S. Currency (believed to be proceeds for the same of controlled substances)
  • Fifteen (15) baggies each containing marijuana
  • Mail & documents in the name of the defendants
  • Three (3) functional cellular communication facilities
  • Packaging material and processing equipment related to crack cocaine and heroin
  • Thirty (30) baggies each containing crack cocaine
  • Ten (10) packets each containing heroin
  • Eighteen (18) baggies containing cocaine

The total street value of the controlled substances seized was $1,200.00.

The defendants were transported to the Berks County Sheriff's Department Central Processing Center for processing and arraignment. Magisterial District Judge Kyle Scott set bail at $250,000.00 for Acevedo. Bail could not be set for Maysonet-Osorio because he would not cooperate with Magisterial District Judge Scott. Subsequently, he was committed to Berks County Jail on a parole violation.
