DETAILS OF INCIDENT:
Berks County District Attorney John T. Adams has officially issued a Public Health Alert as the result of a rash of overdoses that occurred over the past weekend of December 7th and 8th, 2019 in the Borough of West Reading, the City of Reading, Exeter Township and Rockland Township.  A total of twelve overdoses were reported, which required medical attention and unfortunately three lives were lost. Detectives are awaiting results of toxicology reports from medical personnel in these cases.

On Saturday, December 7, 2019, defendant, Jesus Adolf Tolentino and four others were taken to Reading Hospital after they were all found unconscious in the 100 block of S. 3rd Avenue, West Reading, Pennsylvania, at approximately 6:00 p.m.

On Saturday, December 7, 2019, West Reading Police Detectives and the District Attorney’s Detectives started an investigation into the overdose incidents.  The common denominator in these overdose investigations were substances believed to be cocaine laced with possibly fentanyl.

During the course of the investigation, detectives recovered white powdery substances from several overdoses victim’s vehicles.  The recovered substances were immediately transported by the police to the Pennsylvania State Police Laboratory to be analyzed.  A preliminary drug test of the substances indicated that they contained the fentanyl and cocaine.

During the investigation, Berks County Drug Task Force Detectives learned that Jewrry Alvarez of 919 Hearthstone Lane, Sinking Spring, PA, was responsible for trafficking fentanyl to others within Berks County, Pennsylvania.

The detectives further learned, that defendant, Jewrry Alvarez at and around Saturday, December 7, 2019, did deliver an amount of fentanyl believe to be cocaine to Jesus Adolf Tolentino.  Tolentino then on Saturday, December 7, 2019, delivered that same amount of fentanyl to four others; who all overdosed within minutes of ingesting the substances.

The defendants were separately arrested on Monday, December 9, 2019, and were transported to the Berks County Sheriff’s Central Processing Unit.

The investigation is continuing….
