In January of 2017, after receiving community complaints regarding possible prostitution and drug usage, the Berks County District Attorney's Narcotics Unit initiated an investigation with the Cumru Police Department at the Samantha's Day Spa located at 360 E. Wyomissing Avenue, Suite J, Mohnton, PA. This facility is located in the "Stabon Pond Plaza" business center.
During the investigation, an undercover detective met with the defendant on two separate occasions in the month of February inside Samantha's Day Spa. During these meetings, the defendant agreed to perform sexual acts on the detective in exchange for U.S. Currency.
On February 14, 2017, detectives obtained a search warrant for Samantha's Spa from Magisterial District Judge David Yoch. The search warrant was for any and all items that could be utilized to further prostitution in a house of prostitution.
At approximately 3:00 p.m., the Berks County District Attorney's Narcotic's Detectives and officers from the Cumru Police Department served the search warrant. Once inside the spa, detectives arrested Maria Roleda Bey. Four other employees of the spa were detained and later released.
A search was conducted and the following items were seized:
- electronic equipment
- numerous records & documents
- amount of U.S. Currency believed to be proceeds from the business
- various items associated with the utilization and facilitation of the act of prostitution
The defendant was transported to the Berks County Sheriff's Department Processing Center. Detectives charged Bey with Promoting Prostitution and Prostitution & Related Offenses. Bail was set at $10,000 unsecured.
This is an ongoing investigation and further arrests may be made as a result.
