DETAILS OF INCIDENT:
 
On Tuesday, February 19, 2019, at approximately 6:29 p.m., the West Reading Police were dispatched to a “robbery in progress” at the West Reading Drug Store located at 538 Penn Avenue, West Reading, Berks County, Pennsylvania 19611.  The suspect was wearing a ski mask, jeans, sweatshirt and carrying a black bag, and last seen fleeing the store (no weapon was displayed). 
 
The suspect took a large amount bottled controlled substances (Oxycodone and OxyContin) having a value of $16,395.00.
 
During the investigation, West Reading Police developed a suspect identified as Kirk Mullen.  Mullen resides in the 700 block of Holland Square in the Borough of West Reading, Berks County.
 
On Friday, February 22, 2019, this robbery investigation was turned over to the Berks County Detective’s Office who assumed the lead investigative role.
 
Through the course of this robbery investigation, numerous witnesses were interviewed, a neighborhood canvas was conducted, and video surveillance footage was retrieved which aided the robbery investigation. 
 
On Thursday, February 28, 2019, the Berks County Detective’s Office obtained a sealed search warrant, authorized by an Honorable Judge from the Berks County Court of Common Pleas. This search warrant was for the residence located at 713 Holland Square, West Reading.
 
On Friday, March 1, 2019, at approximately 6:10 a.m., members of the Berks County Detective’s Office executed the search warrant at 713 Holland Square.
 
As a result of the search warrant, items of evidence were collected which are related to the robbery at the West Reading Drug Store.
 
The resident, Kirk J. Mullen, was taken into custody and transported to the Berks County Detective’s Office. Then, he was escorted to the Central Processing Center to be fingerprinted and photographed. Bail was set at $200,000 and he is currently in Berks County Jail awaiting further court action.
 
A Criminal Complaint is an accusation. A defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty.
