Southwest Middle School Former Teacher Arrested for Child Sexual Abuse

Jessica Saienni, 30 years of age

As a result of a child sexual abuse investigation by the Berks County District Attorney's Child Abuse Unit, detectives learned that a male juvenile was sexually abused by his teacher, Jessica Saienni. Saienni was a science teacher at Southwest Middle School, Reading, Pennsylvania. From June 2012 through August 2012, the defendant had an inappropriate relationship with the 14 year-old male victim.

In January of 2014, the victim disclosed that the defendant began and maintained a sexual relationship with him between June and August of 2012. The nature of these contacts involved the defendant text messaging the victim on his cellphone and then picking him up in her motor vehicle where she would then drive him to where a sexual encounter would occur. The initial encounter occurred while they were parked in the defendant's vehicle near the Body Zone Sports and Wellness Complex which is located at3103Papermill Road, Wyomissing, Berks County, Pennsylvania. During an initial 4 to 5 occasionsthe defendant transported the victim to herhome in Bethlehem,Northampton County, Pennsylvania. The victim provided a description of the defendant's home which was consistent with the observations made by Northampton County Detective's Office during a search warrant executed at the defendant's home on January 29, 2014.

On February 20, 2014, detectives obtained a warrant of arrest for Saienni for Statutory Sexual Assault, Involuntary Deviate Sexual Intercourse, Institutional Sexual Assault, Corruption of Minors, Intimidation of Witnesses or Victims, and Unlawful Contact With Minor. The warrant was issued by Magisterial District Judge Ann L. Young.

At approximately 10:00 a.m. on February 21, 2014, Jessica Saienni surrendered at the Berks County Detectives Office. The defendant was accompanied by her attorney.

Jessica Saienni was arraigned and bail was set at $50,000. Saienni remains free on bail.
