Biography: Frederick C. Sheeler
Recorder of Deeds

Frederick Sheeler, Recorder of DeedsFrederick Sheeler was elected Berks County Recorder of Deeds in November 2007 and assumed office in January 2008.  He was re-elected to a second term in 2011. Prior to being elected Recorder,  Fred was employed in the banking and mortgage industries for twenty-three years and was the owner of Hamburg Home Mortgage Service since 1993.  Throughout his work experience Fred worked closely with the real estate, legal and title insurance personnel who routinely use the Recorder's office which gave him valuable insight into the operations of the office.

A lifelong Berks County resident, Fred graduated from Wilson High School in 1980 and from Kutztown University in 1984 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration/Management.  Fred has been an active community volunteer for many years.  A member of the Rotary Club of Hamburg since 1987 he served as Club President in 2004-2005 and was a member of the 2008 Rotaplast Mission to Barquisimeto Venezuela.  Fred was also past president of the Northern Berks Chamber of Business and Industry and has been a long time supporter of the Hamburg Main Street Program.   Fred currently serves on the Board of Trustees of the Hamburg Center as Board President and has been a member of the Center's Disability Rights Committee for over ten years.

During his first term in office Fred completely digitized all documents recorded in the office since the County's founding in 1752.  It is now possible to search, view and print all of Berks County's land records from the Recorder of Deed's website at www.CountyofBerks.com/recorder.  And as an avid amateur historian Fred is dedicated to preserving all of the historic records and documents contained in the office.  Fred also has a deep commitment to excellent customer service and welcomes all suggestions you may have for improving the Recorder of Deed's Office.
