 "Go Fly A Kite! Day"

The sky above the Berks County Recreation Facility will be filled with brilliant colors and a variety of shapes & creatures, as all levels of kiters, from beginners to professionals, enjoy a festival celebrating the high-flying fascination of kiting.  Free admission and parking.
 
Watch exciting demonstration by our hosts the Sky Pilots Kite Club and other experienced kiters as they show off their skills and kite creations.  Throughout the day, they will demonstrate different types of kites in the air and on the ground, on the Main Field (lighted soccer field).
 
Children of all ages can join in the fun as they learn to make their very own kite and decorate it in the Sled Kite Workshop held throughout the day sponsored by East Penn Manufacturing and Body Zone Sports and Wellness Complex. Later on, they may fly their kite in the Sled Kite Contests to win a prize! Sled Kite contest divisions include: "Most Colorful", "Funniest", "Most Imaginative", "Highest Flying" and "Best Overall".              Contest

More fun awaits children and their families throughout the day with an Hot Air Balloon demos, Hawk Mountain's "Wild About Raptors" shows, pony rides by K&B Stables and much more! A great day for the whole family! 
   
 
Newspaper Kite Division
Newspaper Kite Division
 Kite contest registration begins at 12:00 p.m. and contest judging begins at 2:30 p.m.   The Newspaper Kite Division is a contest in which eligible entries are made entirely of newspaper. Kites must be made from newspaper and must be able to fly. We look forward to seeing what shapes & sizes will appear in the sky this year! 
Professional Kiters may enter our Field of Colors Ground Display contest with their collection of kites, banners and more.  Entires will line the Main/Contest field (lighted soccer field) and will be judged before the end of the day.  
    
Go Fly A Kite! Day
  
Due to the close proximity of the Reading Regional Airport, all kite flying is restricted to 350 feet from the ground.  This event is presented by the Berks County Parks & Recreation Department and the Sky Pilots Kite Club. Refreshments are available. Rain or shine event.

Entertainment is Hot Air Balloon Demonstrations by

Bloomin Balloon owned by Steve Essser of  Kutztown PA.

Times: 2:00 & 4:00 p.m.

 

Tethered Balloon Rides as weather permits following last demo. $5.00 per person.
