63rd Annual Pennsylvania Prothonotaries & Clerks of Courts Conference in Reading, PA
2009 Conference of the Pennsylvania State Association of Prothonotaries and Clerks of Courts regarded as one of the most educational in recent memory
The recently completed 2009 Conference of the Pennsylvania State Association of Prothonotaries and Clerks of Courts is being hailed by all in attendance as one of the best and most educational in recent memory. The conference, hosted by State Association President and Prothonotary of Berks County MARIANNE R. SUTTON, was held from June 22 – 26, 2009 at the Crowne Plaza Reading Hotel. It featured, in addition to mostly all of the Prothonotaries and Clerks of Courts of Pennsylvania, a special vendor forum area with representatives of 20 businesses from around the country who specialize in providing new technologies for Prothonotaries and Clerks of Courts.
“I wanted this year’s conference to be special and have in addition to our normal schedule of educational and informational sessions to members, a special vendor and business technology area where members can be introduced to new technologies that may be able to benefit their offices,” said Marianne R. Sutton, Prothonotary of Berks County and President of the State Association. “We have not had this in years past and I was determined to work hard during this, my presidential year, to attract top quality vendors to attend our conference. I am very happy we succeeded.” Vendors who attended the conference came to Reading from as far away as Madison, WI and Newtown, CT.
The conference featured educational speakers on a wide variety of topics specific to Pennsylvania Prothonotaries and Clerks of Courts including: the unauthorized practice of law, mortgage foreclosure filings, legislative updates and proposed changes, U.S. Passport information, Protection from Abuse filings and cases, Pro Se litigants’ self-help center, state financial reporting and other related topics. Special invited guests who attended the conference were Pennsylvania Attorney General Tom Corbett and Pennsylvania Supreme Court Associate Justice J. Michael Eakin, who attended the conference banquet, made remarks and swore in the officers of the State Association for the 2009 – 2010 year. A special guest appearance was made by Clyde Ray Webber, Jr., Clerk of Courts of Concordia Parish Louisiana, whose inspirational and humorous talk ended the conference on a high note.
