Gun Permit Office - Courthouse 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. (closed from 1pm to 2pm)
Reading Airport Substation - 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. (closed from 2 p.m. - 3 p.m.)
Remote Locations - 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. (closed from 2 p.m. - 3 p.m.)
 
 
The Berks County Sheriff's Office is responsible for processing all applications for a Pennsylvania License to Carry Firearms. This license allows a person to carry a concealed weapon on his or her person or in a motor vehicle. The licenses are issued to persons who qualify, based on a background investigation conducted by the Firearm License Unit, within 45 days of the filing of the application. The license is valid for a period of 5 years. The license may be revoked at any time for reasons of misuse, criminal activity or a person who's character or reputation shows they are likely to act in a manner dangerous to public safety.
 
Applications for a Pennsylvania License to Carry Firearms may be obtained on-line (see forms below) or by coming to one of our two locations, the Sheriff's Office on the 3rd floor of the Berks County Courthouse during normal business hours of 8:30 am - 4:30 pm, Monday-Friday or Sheriff's Office Substation located at the Reading Regional Airport from 10:00am to 6:00pm (closed 2:00pm to 3:00pm), excluding holidays.  The Sheriff's Office also issued License to Carry Firearms at our monthly remote locations, listed below are the locations and times.

Applications may also be obtained by sending a self addressed envelope to the Berks County Sheriff's Office, Firearm Licenses Unit, 633 Court Street, Reading, Pa 19601.  Telephone: 610-478-6240 Ext 3265.
 
 
The Firearm License Unit also issues licenses for firearms dealers and precious metals dealers in Berks County. These applications may also be obtained in the above stated manner.
 
 
Currently the states of ALASKA, ARKANSAS, FLORIDA, GEORGIA, KENTUCKY, MICHIGAN, MISSOURI, NEW HAMPSHIRE, NORTH CAROLINA, OKLAHOMA, SOUTH DAKOTA , TENNESSEE, TEXAS, VIRGINIA, WEST VIRGINIA & WYOMING have reciprocity (will honor) the Pennsylvania License to Carry Firearms.
