Announcements: TO THE RESIDENTS OF KENHORST BOROUGH

Title

TO THE RESIDENTS OF KENHORST BOROUGH

Body

Thank you for your patience during the past few snowy and icy days.  If you have been keeping up with recent local news, you know that most of the Berks County municipalities are suffering from a shortage of road salt.

Since February 19th, Kenhorst has been waiting for our orders place with the State, the County and the Pennsylvania Emergency Management Agency (PEMA) for an additional 125 tons of salt.  As of March 1st, we have used 50 tons more than what was used during all of last year.  Lack of road salt is a dilemma facing every municipality right now and therefore, we ask for your patience and understanding as we could only plow the streets during the recent snow events and use what little salt we still had on hand to treat hills and some intersections.  Given these restrictions, our public works crew still did a great job under very difficult circumstances.

Please note that when a snow emergency is in effect, only the snow emergency routes are plowed curb-to-curb.  For all other streets, only driving lanes are plowed during a snow emergency.  While it is not an ideal situation - it is our reality.  Best to you all for safe travels and let's hope for spring to come quickly!

Sincerely,
Jeri L. Diesinger,
Borough Manager
