STREET SWEEPING - WEEK OF MAY 9th
Weather permitting, the Borough's annual street sweeping will be conducted during the week of May 9th. Look for posted signs noting the specific days each block/street will be swept so you can make arrangements for moving your vehicles as needed. Vehicles violating the temporary no parking signs will be ticketed and possibly towed - thank you in advance for your cooperation.
Blue Ribbon Campaign - Support Local Law Enforcement
Display a blue ribbon and show your support for local law enforcement! Berks County Crime Alert is again leading a group of sponsors promoting the Blue Ribbon Campaign - blue ribbons are available at the Borough Hall office at no charge. See Crime Alert's website for more information: www.alertberks.org/Events.aspx
1ST QUARTER SEWER/REFUSE BILLS - NEW SEWER RATES
The 1st Quarter sewer and refuse bills for 2016 were mailed April 15th - the due date is Monday, May 16th. The 1st Quarter sewer and and refuse bills reflect new sewer rates that were effective January 1, 2016. The minimum sewer charge is $105/quarter from $100/quarter; the factor rate which is multiplied times the amount of gallons used over the 12,500 gallon quarterly maximum is now $.0084/gallon from $.0072/gallon. These increases were necessary due to increased sewer treatment charges being charged to the Borough by the City of Reading.
TUESDAY YARD WASTE COLLECTION
Yard waste will be collected every Tuesday from March 22nd through December 6th during 2016. Borough residents and property owners are encouraged to put all of their yard waste out for collection in open trash containers and/or biodegradable brown paper bags - this keeps the borough landfill costs down and is better for the environment as these materials can be "recycled" as they are used to make gardening/farming mulch! There is no limit to the amount of yard waste one can put out - NO plastic trash bags please. Acceptable yard waste material includes grass clippings, weeds, bushes/hedge trimmings - small branches and bushes can be put out and bundled together if they are no longer than 4 feet and weigh no more than 40 pounds. Any questions? Contact the Borough at info@kenhorstborough.com, 610-777-7327 or Eagle Disposal at 717-355-9560.
