Title

MOSQUITO SURVEILLANCE & WEST NILE VIRUS MONITORING

Body

The Berks County Conservation District will conduct mosquito surveillance and West Nile Virus monitoring in Longswamp Township again this year approximately once a month beginning April 1st through October 1st.  Enchanced monitoring will be conducted if mosquito populations and/or virus levels become elevated enough to warrant additional testing.  Both adult and larval mosquito samples will be taken.  Larval mosquito control will be conducted on the spot with bacterial-based larvacides.  Adult mosquito control will be conducted as needed, based on the level of virus in the area and/or populations of mosquito capable of transmitting disease.

Please see attached images of the types of mosquito trapping devices that will be used in our area this year which will be tagged with the Berks County Conservation District logo and specific contact information.

West Nile Virus testing will also be conducted on any dead birds found in the area.  Please report dead birds directly to the Berks County Conservation District:
