Bike patrol

The Bike Patrol Unit of the Muhlenberg Township Police Department has been in operation for several years now.  The department has at its disposal a total of (8) police bicycles.  Among these are (6) Trek bikes and (2) Fuji bikes.  This unit is currently overseen by Sgt Jeffrey Doelp.  A majority of the officers in the Patrol Division are trained as Bike Patrol Officers.

The bike patrol is utilized for a variety of situations.  Within the township's vast park system, many areas are accessible only by foot or by bike.  Additionally, the bikes are excellent tools for patrolling at special events, such as National Night Out and Muhlenberg Community Days.  Also, patrolling shopping districts and residential areas on a bike provides much greater visibility for the officers of the Patrol Division.  Finally, many criminals have been caught off guard by an officer approaching on a bike.
