The Criminal Investigations Division conducts follow-up investigations for all major crimes reported to the department.  Members of this division assist the Patrol Officers with investigations and make sure that proper steps are taken for prosecutions.  The Division currently consists of Detective James Pollock #22, Detective Ramon Caraballo #30, Detective Frank Hill #11, and Detective Chris Jones #06.  The patrol division consists of four platoons, and one detective is assigned to each platoon.  As such, each detective falls under the direct supervision of a patrol sergeant.

The division works with many outside police agencies including the Federal Bureau of Investigation, Drug Enforcement Administration,  United States Secret Service, Pennsylvania State Police, the Attorney General’s Office and the Berks County District Attorney’s Office.

Criminal Investigations will handle all major crimes, such as homicide, robbery, burglary, rape and arson as well as execute search and arrest warrants when needed.

Detective Pollock is one of two latent print examiners and one of two arson investigators within the department.  He has the responsibility of working with our fire department and investigating suspicious fires, as well as examining latent prints for further classification.

Detective Caraballo has used his experience to investigate a variety of crimes including homicide, robberies, burglaries, sex crimes, auto theft, organized crime as well as many other violations of criminal law.  He spent five years on special assignment with the Pennsylvania State Police Bureau of Criminal Investigations.
