During the winter snow season, Borough employees work long hours in an effort to clear the roadways of snow and ice to make the streets safe for motorists. Please assist them in their efforts by obeying the following regulations:
Per Borough Ordinance 386-B, It is prohibited for any person to shovel, push, blow or plow snow from the sidewalk, driveway or any other area into the street.
During the course of any snowfall with accumulations in excess of two inches, parking shall be prohibited on the uneven-numbered (house numbers) side of Borough streets until such time as plowing is completed on said side of the street.
After 8:00 a.m. of the day following any snowstorm, parking shall be prohibited on the even-numbered (house numbers) side of Borough streets, and on Vester Place in its entirety, until such time as plowing is completed on said streets.
Within 24 hours after any snowstorm ends or ice has formed, the owner or occupant of any premises shall clear a 30-inch path over such sidewalk.
PHONE SCAMS TARGETING THE ELDERLY
The Sinking Spring Police Department is warning residents, particularly the elderly, to be aware of a telephone scam in which victims are told they have won a large lottery prize but need to send in ten percent of their winnings to claim the prize.
An 86 year old resident was contacted by telephone in mid-December and was told that he had won $450,000.00 in a contest or lottery. The victim was advised he had to send the caller ten percent of the winnings as a good-faith gesture to claim the prize. Over the past month, the man wired $45,000.00 to the address given by the callers, but he never received the $450,000.00 prize.
The Sinking Spring Police Department is investigating this theft in an effort to get the victim's money back, but in the meantime, want the public to be advised that if they are told something that is too good to be true, it probably is not true, and residents should hang up their phone. When a scam is successful in one Zip Code or Area Code, the scammers will sometimes continue to target that area for additional victims.
Anyone who has received similar phone calls is asked to contact police at 610-678-1906.
