In 2001, Chief Ulrich was approached by Mr. Bob Williams, Williams Metalfinishing Inc. about the possibility of the Borough of Sinking Spring purchasing Automated External Defibrillators (AED's) for the Borough Police cars. AED's can be used in cases of cardiac arrest to re-start the heart of someone whose heart has stopped suddenly. Since there was no money budgeted to purchase the AED's, Mr. Williams spearheaded an effort to contribute to and solicit funds from other businesses in the Borough of Sinking Spring.

In 2002, approx. $4,600.00 was raised and two AED's were purchased, one for each active Sinking Spring Police car. The following businesses contributed to the fund or facilitated the purchase of the two AED's.

Williams Metalfinishing 870 Commerce Street Sinking Spring, PA
Hofmann Industries 3145 Shillington Road Sinking Spring, PA
Milroy Enterprises 100 Park Ave. Sinking Spring, PA

Since the purchase of the AED's, one has been used unsuccessfully in the attempt to assist a person in cardiac arrest.
