Berks County > Municipalities > Upper Bern Township

Your township EAAC has had a relatively quiet winter, with ongoing discussion about noxious weeds, and involvement with the Berks County Conservancy as it pertains to concerns about environmental issues and future goals. As we head into spring and summer we would like to take this opportunity to encourage our township residents to become familiar with the townships noxious weed ordinance, and begin looking closely at their properties for such weeds as Poison Ivy, thistles and Tree of Heaven, etc. You would be very surprised to discover many of the invasive plants/noxious weeds are very common on our properties. For further information you can also explore the links below: http://www.agriculture.state.pa.us/portal/server.pt/gateway/PTARGS_0_2_24476_10297_0_43/AgWebsite/ProgramDetail.aspx?palid=116& http://cal.vet.upenn.edu/projects/poison/index.htmlhttp://www.dcnr.state.pa.us/forestry/plants/invasiveplants/index.htm http://www.dcnr.state.pa.us/forestry/plants/invasiveplants/index.htm For assistance with eliminating these plants from your property you can explore these links for further information or feel free to contact your EAAC members, including Mike Hartman, John Messner or myself. We would be happy to further assist you. As usual we would like to encourage anyone with an interest in agriculture and the environment to attend our meetings and perhaps also volunteer for membership on the EAAC. If you are interested in formally joining us you can contact one of the aforementioned members or contact the Township office at 610-488-1191. Respectfully submitted, Jackie Baker, Chairperson
