New Businesses/Rental(Leasing) Properties

The word "business" is defined as "the activity of making, buying, or selling goods or providing services in exchange for money."  If you are operating a business and receiving income from that business, you are required to apply for a Business Privilege License.

Internet and/or Limited Liability Corporations qualify as businesses and require a License as well.

If you anticipate opening a new business or renting/leasing property to a tenant within the Borough of Wyomissing, it is imperative that you file an Application for a Business Privilege License.   Pursuant to Ordinance No. 1346, amending Ordinance No. 1237, it provides that any person desiring to conduct, or to continue to conduct, any business within the Borough of Wyomissing, shall file an application for a Business Privilege License with the Borough of Wyomissing, and shall pay fifty ($50) dollars for the initial fee and pay twenty-five ($25) dollars for each annual renewal thereof as long as it is paid in full by the end of January. After that date, penalties will be applied.  Renewal documentation will be mailed during the first week of November for the succeeding year.  A business privilege license is NOT transferable with the sale of a business or change in ownership.   A new application must be filed if the business is sold or changes ownership.

Classifications of Applications:
      (1) COMMERCIAL BPL application.pdf (a business operated within a commercial location, i.e., shopping mall or industrial park); and,

        (2)

      (3) RENTAL.pdf* (renting property to a tenant whether commerical/residential)

Please note that the applications for both a home based and rental/leasing application are 2 pages and must be fully completed.

*You are required to complete a Rental Unit Permit Application. This should be submitted at the same time you submit a "rental" business privilege license application.  Below is the Rate Schedule setting forth the fees to be submitted with the Rental Unit Inspection Application:

The application can be found here:    RENTAL UNIT INSPECTION APPLICATION.pdf

                                TEMPORARY BUSINESS PRIVILEGE LICENSES

There is also an application for a temporary business license.  A temporary business is defined as any business that is conducted at one location for less than 60 consecutive days in a year.    A temporary business would include trade shows (i.e., baseball/football card sales), exhibitions, conferences, seminars of any type, etc.  A copy of said application can be found here TEMPORARY BUSINESS PRIVILEGE LICENSE APPLICATION.pdf

Please keep in mind that failure to comply with the above-referenced Ordinance or conducting business in the Borough of Wyomissing without a current Business Privilege License can result in a fine up to six hundred ($600) dollars, plus costs associated with prosecution.
