LEESPORT --- Furnace Creek Honey is the latest Berks County agriculturalist to become a partner in the local food branding program known as Bountiful Berks™, offered by the Berks Agricultural Resource Network and the Office of Agricultural Coordinator to promote food raised or processed in Berks County. Owned by H. Allen Schaeffer, Furnace Creek Honey is located at 48 East Mountain Avenue, Robesonia. Schaeffer, who is also known for his blacksmithing and photography, has added beekeeping to his list of interests.
“My wife Nicole and I are in our third year of keeping bees in the Robesonia area,” says Schaeffer. “We became interested after a friend decided to try beekeeping. As we researched honeybees and beekeeping, we became more aware of the role of pollinators in general and the struggles they go through to exist.

READING (October 3, 2014) --- Shoppers have one more market Friday at Penn Street Farmers Market, located outdoors in the 800 block of Penn Street, Reading. The market will be open from 10:30 a.m. until 2:30 p.m.
“Fall fruits and vegetables, like pumpkins, squash, apples and pears, are in abundance” says Sheila Miller, agricultural coordinator for Berks County. “As we close out this year’s market season, we are grateful for the people who have come out to support the farmer vendors who sell local produce and meats from June through October..”
