We offer a series of programs and workshops starting in February through December. These programs are free unless otherwise indicated. For more information, or to register for a workshop, please call the Berks County Heritage Center at 610-374-8839, or at the number indicated.

  • Owl Prowl

    ​Discover the feathered friends who make February their time to find love. Learn about PA’s native owls, their calls, and fun facts about how they have evolved into one of our animals of the night! A hike into the woods will follow a short discussion and show & tell about our outstanding owls. The event is geared toward families with children ages 5+. Please wear sturdy footwear, warm clothes, and bring a flashlight. This event is FREE, but you must call 484-509-2667, ext. 3 to register beforehand.

    Details:

    ​Get outside and get active!  Join Environmental Education staff on a guided hike held the first Friday of each month as we enjoy the sights, sounds, and even smells of the forest during our excursion.  Staff will lead each hike and use sustainable trail etiquette with Leave No Trace ethics.  Discover the park through new adventures with new friends, and get moving!  In the event of inclement weather, the hike may be postponed.  Wear appropriate trail footwear and warm clothing, and bring plenty of water.  Contact jbrooks@countyofberks.com for more information, or call 484-509-2667.

  • FULL-From Tree to Table:Maple Sugaring 101

    FULL-Join us as we experience an American tradition, maple sugaring!  Explore maple sugaring from start to finish as we tap trees, boil the sap, and taste the final product.  The event is $3 per person and space is limited!  Remember to dress for the weather.(Snow Date: Sunday, March 3rd.  Call 610-374-2944 ext. 2611 to register)

  • Beginning Fly Tying Workshop

    ​Classes will be held on Tuesday Nights 7:00 to 9:00 PM  March 5th  through April 9th, 2019 (6 classes)
    Classes will be held at the Berks County Heritage Center 1102 Red Bridge Rd., Reading PA 19605
    Fee, to cover cost of materials will be $30.00 payable on or before first class. (Included in the fee is Club Membership for 2019.)
    Pre-registration suggested by 3/1/19 -Class Size Limited.A limited number of tying tools and equipment are available for beginner’s classes or bring your own if you have them.

  • Bird House Gourds

    ​Love birds?  Give the gift of gourds!  Select a dried gourd to cut and decorate while we discuss some of the finer points of nesting birds.  Learn which kinds of birds you may find in your crafty creations!  Bring your creativity, all other materials provided.  Geared towards children and adults, ages 6+, $7 per registered participant, adults must accompany children.  Pre-registration required, to register contact lgauker@countyofberks.com, or call 484-509-2667 to register.

  • Sewing Circle-Quilting

    ​An old-fashioned sewing circle offered the opportunity for new and experienced stitchers of all crafts to gather and exchange skills and camaraderie. In our era of technology, it is fun to take a step back and renew these opportunities. Each person should bring a project of their own to work on, whether it’s sewing, embroidery, quilting, knitting, crocheting etc.  Topic: Putting in a casing.

    ​Mason bees are the cute and fuzzy cousin to our honeybee friends, but did you know that they can pollinate with some real pizzazz?  Invite these native pollinators to your backyard by building a simple mason bee house and providing them with the nesting space they need while learning how Mason bees and their native cousins play a valuable role in our environment.  Geared towards families with children ages 5+, $5 per participant.  Pre-registration required, contact lgauker@countyofberks.com, or 484-509-2667 to register.

  • Paws On the Path

    ​Join us for a walk with your dog(s). All dogs must be good around other dogs and must be leashed at all times. Please bring water for your dog. The only fee is that you bring a donation to the Animal Rescue League of Berks County. Call 610-374-8839 for more information.

    ​Join the Berks County Parks Staff, along with our wonderful volunteers, for a day of family fun at this year’s EGGstravaganza. This event will feature the Easter Bunny with special treats for children. There will also be children’s crafts and activities, egg decorating, and much, much more!   • Eco Egg Hunt

    Join Environmental Education Program Manager, Jennifer Brooks, and partake in an egg hunt and adventure unlike any other. This non-traditional, non-competitive egg hunt will delight children and parents alike. Children will venture into the forest to hunt for and collect different types of decorated eggs that resemble hawks, owls, and other native birds hidden amongst the leaves.   • Wildflower Walk

  • Let's Go Fly A Kite! Festival & Healthy Kids Day

    ​Bring a store-bought kite or kids can make on in our Sled-Kite Workshop tent. See professional kite flying and stunts.  Health and wellness information will be shared, along with fun games for all ages. Vote for your favorite in the Law Enforcement Vehicle Competition!  Bring a picnic lunch and spend a day in the park! Together, our kids will “Get Active & Take Flight!” Free admission and parking.
