The Evening Reporting Center (ERC) program is an alternative to secure detention for Berks County pre-adjudicated and adjudicated delinquent adolescent males, which is operated by the Childrens Home of Reading (CHOR).  Balanced and Restorative Justice (BARJ) principles are integrated in the ERC program by keeping youth in their home community through meaningful community-based interventions.  Schools, Juvenile Probation Officers, parents, families and other human service providers work collaboratively with the ERC staff to achieve program objectives.  The average length of stay in the ERC program is 30 days.  The goals of the ERC program include an improvement in the clients' academic attendance, attendance at any scheduled judicial hearings, maintainance of appropriate behavior at home and in the community, performance of community service and no commission of new deliquent acts.

All youth are required to report Monday through Friday, from 3:00 pm to 9:00 pm, except for major holidays.  Clients will be transported to and from the facility by ERC staff members.  Youth are required to bring homework each day and if no homework was assigned or brought, grade appropriate educational assignments are provided by the ERC.  Weekly contact is maintained with the juvenile's family and snacks and dinner are provided daily.  Urinalysis testing is conducted on-site by Juvenile Probation Officers.
