  • Correctional Facility Project​

    The County of Berks has restarted the planning process to construct a new correctional facility to replace the existing County jail. Information and updates about the project can be found here.


  • Local Disaster Emergency Declaration

    County officials reinstated the local disaster emergency declaration on Dec. 30, 2021 to equip the County and its departments to respond quickly and effectively to resurgent COVID-19 issues.  The declaration is a direct response to the recent uptick in COVID-19 cases and the impact on healthcare and public safety services.

  • Antietam Lake Park Deer Management Program

    A controlled hunt is underway at Antietam Lake Park to help reduce the deer population that is currently damaging the property through over-browsing.  The hunt is a joint venture between the Berks County Parks and Recreation Department and USDA Wildlife Services and will continue until Jan. 29, 2022.

  • ​Tri-County Rail Committee
    The Berks County Commissioners have pledged their support for pursuing the restoration of passenger rail service in Berks, Chester and Montgomery counties. A Tri-County Rail Committee with representatives from the three counties is meeting frequently to help move the project forward.

    Berks Alliance-funded study about the benefits of passenger rail service to Berks County.
