{Union Canal Trail}
Welcome to Berks County's Tulpehocken Creek Valley Park. To the native Lenni Lenape Indians who adopted this name, Tulpehocken meant "Land of Turtles" in recognition of the shelled creatures that congregated along the stream's banks. Since those days, this secluded valley has witnessed the successive arrival of farmers, millers, canalmen, real estate developers, and now, park visitors. Today, a 370-acre county park traces a 4 1/2 mile stretch of the creek from Stonecliffe Recreation Area to Reber's Bridge, preserving the natural and historical heritage of the area for future generations. Many of the old structures you will see have withstood the test of time; others can only be recognized by the subtle ruins which remain.
Trail distances (in miles): Stonecliffe to Berks Leisure Area - .6, Berks Leisure to Gring's Mill-.6, Gring's Mill to Red Bridge-1.1, Red Bridge to Paper Mill- 1, Paper Mill to Reber's Bridge Rd.-.9.
