Bicycle-Pedestrian Planning

In an effort to promote clean alternative forms of travel, the federal government and PennDOT heartily endorse planning-for and implementing bicycle and pedestrian projects and improvements.  This goes beyond sidewalks, curb ramps and recreational paths, though those functions are often interrelated.  Bicycle and pedestrian modes must be thought of as a contiguous network interwoven with the entire transportation system.  To that end, the Berks County Bicycle and Pedestrian Transportation Plan acts as a component of the overall Berks County Long-Range Transportation Plan.

The Plan includes the text document that lists Goals and specific projects, and two maps (Countywide and Urban Area) that depict project locations.  The Plan was created by a Bicycle/Pedestrian Committee along with a consultant team hired by PennDOT.  The Reading MPO officially adopted the Plan in March, 2002.  Any questions related to the Plan should be directed to the Planning Commission staff.
