The Berks County Planning Commission serves as the area-wide planning organization for Berks County. The Commission provides a regional blueprint for land use, transportation and community facilities. It assists local units of government with development and preservation activities and provides guidance to the Berks County Board of Commissioners and other departments of county government. The Commission and its professional staff also serve as community advisors for modern planning practices and advocates for sound regional growth management. Finally, since the Commission is involved with a range of activities with a number of partners, it plays a very important coordinating role in community development issues and projects.

Roundabouts are here and more are coming. Are you prepared?
Construction was completed last year on the roundabout at U.S. 222 and PA 662 in Richmond Township. This intersection has been a major success in reducing congestion and improving safety. Additionally, construction should begin in April, 2019 for two additional roundabouts to be located at the intersections of PA 73 and PA 662 on either side of the Village of Oley. Bids are also expected to be opened in the summer of 2019 for two additional roundabouts on U.S. 222 at Genesis Drive/Tamarack Boulevard and at U.S. 222 and Schaeffer Road. Bids will also be opened this summer on another project to place a roundabout at U.S. 222 and PA 863/Schantz Road in Lehigh County just across the Berks County line.
