FIREARM LICENSE UNIT
The Berks County Sheriff's Department is responsible for processing all applications for a Pennsylvania License to Carry Firearms. This license allows a person to carry a concealed weapon on their person or in a motor vehicle. The licenses are issued to persons who qualify, based on a background investigation conducted by the Firearm License Unit, within 45 days of the filing of the application. The license is valid for a period of 5 years. The license may be revoked at anytime for reasons of misuse or criminal activity.
Applications for a Pennsylvania License to Carry Firearms maybe obtained on-line, see forms below, or by coming into the sheriff's Department on the 3rd floor of the Berks County Courthouse during our normal business hours of 8 am - 4:30 pm, Monday-Friday, excluding holidays. Applications may also be obtained by sending a self addressed stamped enveloped to the Berks County Sheriff's Department, Firearm Licenses Unit, 633 Court Street, Reading, Pa. 19601. The Firearm License Unit also issues licenses for
firearms dealers and
precious metals dealers in Berks County. These applications may also be obtained in the above stated manner.
Currently the states of ALASKA, ARKANSAS, FLORIDA, GEORGIA, KENTUCKY, MICHIGAN, MISSOURI, NEW HAMPSHIRE, NORTH CAROLINA, OKLAHOMA, SOUTH DAKOTA , TENNESSEE, TEXAS, VIRGINIA, WEST VIRGINIA & WYOMING have reciprocity (will honor) the Pennsylvania License to Carry Firearms.
