CHARGES:    Indecent Assault (2 Counts)
                       Corruption of Minors
 
DETAILS OF INCIDENT:
 
On December 8, 2021, the Berks County Detective’s Office received a Childline Referral from the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, Department of Human Services, which identified a sixteen-year-old female as a victim of sexual abuse.
 
The Berks County Detectives initiated a criminal investigation, which yielded the following information:
 
On December 20, 2021, a forensic interview was conducted at the Berks County District Attorney’s Children’s Alliance Center. During this interview, the victim disclosed specific details relative to the sexual assaults which occurred between 2014 and 2021.
 
The victim was approximately nine to fifteen years of age when she was assaulted.
 
Based on the information provided by the victim, the detectives learned these assaults occurred inside two different residences, both located within the City of Reading.
She identified Ever Monzon-Alejandro, her step-uncle, as the person who sexually assaulted her on multiple occasions.  
 
On February 2, 2022, detectives filed criminal charges against the defendant, Ever Monzon-Alejandro, before Magisterial District Judge Tonya Butler.
 
On February 2, 2022, at approximately 2:00 P.M., Berks County Detectives arrested the defendant.  He was escorted to the Berks County Sheriff’s Department Central Processing Center for processing.
 
Magisterial District Judge Kyley Scott presided over the defendant’s preliminary arraignment. She set bail at $250,000.00. The defendant was committed to Berks County Jail.
 
As in every criminal case, the fact that an arrest occurred or a complaint has been filed is merely an accusation, and the defendant Ever Monzon-Alejandro, is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
