DETAILS OF INCIDENT:
On December 9, 2020, the Berks County Detective’s Office received a Childline Referral from the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, Department of Human Services, which identified a fifteen-year-old female as a victim of sexual abuse.
The Berks County Detectives initiated a criminal investigation, which yielded the following information:
On December 23, 2020, a Forensic Interview was conducted at the Children’s Alliance Center. During this interview, the victim disclosed and provided specific details relative to the sexual assaults which occurred between 2012 and 2016.
The victim was approximately seven to eleven years old when she was assaulted.
Based on the information provided by the victim (#1), the detectives learned these assaults occurred inside two different residences, both located within the City of Reading.
She identified Antonio Santos-Camacho, her aunt’s ex-husband, as the person who sexually assaulted her on multiple occasions.
In April 2021, the criminal investigation was closed after exhausting all investigative leads but subject to re-opening when additional information would be uncovered.
Then, on September 16, 2021, a member of the Berks County Detective’s Office, observed a Forensic Interview which was conducted relative to another child abuse investigation. The victim (#2) was a seventeen-year-old male.
During this Forensic Interview, victim (#2) disclosed and provided specific details, relative to the sexual assaults, which occurred between 2008 and 2010.
Victim (#2) would have been four to six years old when he was assaulted.
He identified a male known as “Tico”, a friend of the family, as the person who sexually assaulted him.
On January 4, 2022, the detectives obtained a photograph of “Tico” and later confirmed that “Tico” is in fact the nickname of the defendant, Antonio Santos-Camacho.
The detectives obtained additional information and evidence, relative to both child abuse investigations, which positively identified the defendant as the individual who preyed upon and victimized both children.
On January 19, 2022, detectives filed criminal charges against the defendant, Antonio Santos-Camacho, before Magisterial District Judge Kyley Scott.
Subsequently, M.D.J. Scott issued an arrest warrant for the defendant.
On January 20, 2022, at approximately 10:15 A.M., Berks County Detectives apprehended the defendant as he exited his residence. The defendant was immediately taken into custody and transported to the Berks County Sheriff’s Department Central Processing Center where he was fingerprinted and photographed.
M.D.J. Kyley Scott presided over the defendant’s Preliminary Arraignment which was held via video. She set bail at $1,000,000.00 and the defendant was committed to Berks County Jail.
As in every criminal case, the fact that an arrest occurred or a complaint has been filed is merely an accusation, and the defendant Antonio Santos-Camacho, is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
