DETAILS OF INCIDENT:
On May 8, 2020, the Berks County Detective’s Office received a complaint from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (N.C.M.E.C.). The complaint involved the possession and file sharing of child pornography utilizing “DropBox.”
On June 29, 2020, the Berks County Detective’s Office received a 2nd complaint from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (N.C.M.E.C.) involving the possession and file sharing of child pornography utilizing the same “DropBox” account.
The Berks County Detectives identified a total of (11) eleven digital videos and confirmed they in fact are digital files of child pornography.
The Berks County Detectives learned that an individual utilized their “DropBox” account to participate in possessing and sharing suspected child pornography starting in April 2020 and continued up through June 2020. The “DropBox” account was also linked to an email address and that information was also provided to law enforcement.
The target email address was associated with the defendant, Brandon Medina.
The Berks County Detectives were able to identify the Internet Protocol (I.P.) address which was utilized to possess and file share digital images and videos of child pornography, associated with the target “DropBox” account.
On June 30, 2020, through investigation and the service of an Administrative Subpoena upon the Internet Service Provider, the Berks County Detectives learned that the I.P. address was associated with the defendant’s residence, located in the City of Reading.
On July 8, 2020, members of the Berks County Detective’s Office executed a Search Warrant at the defendant’s Reading residence. As a result of the Search Warrant, the Berks County Detectives seized electronic devices from the residence.
A certified forensic examiner conducted a forensic examination on all the electronic devices. The forensic examination yielded numerous digital images and videos of child pornography.
On January 5, 2021, the Berks County Detectives filed criminal charges against the defendant, Brandon Medina, at Magisterial District Judge Carissa Johnson’s Office and an arrest warrant was issued.
On January 8, 2021, at approximately 9:30 A.M., the defendant surrendered by reporting to the Berks County Detective’s Office. The defendant was immediately escorted down to the Central Processing Center and released into the custody of the Berks County Sheriff’s Department.
The defendant was fingerprinted and photographed.
The defendant had a video Preliminary Arraignment which was held by Magisterial District Judge Michael Hartman who set bail at $20,000.00 unsecured. The defendant was released pending a Preliminary Hearing which will be held at a later date.
As in every criminal case, the fact that an arrest occurred or a complaint has been filed is merely an accusation, and the defendant Brandon Medina, is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
