DEFENDANT:    Matthew Scott Kaucher (35 years old)
                           Reading, Pennsylvania

CHARGES:   Sexual Abuse of Children related to Dissemination and Possession of Child Pornography

DETAILS OF INCIDENT:

On December 20, 2019, the Berks County District Attorney’s Detectives received a complaint from Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC). This complaint involved possessing and uploading of child pornography via social media.

Detectives identified an email address which was associated with this child pornography investigation. ICAC confirmed the email address was affiliated with Matthew Scott Kaucher, hereinafter referred to as the defendant.

Detectives were able to identify the Internet Protocol (I.P.) Address which was utilized to upload and share digital images/videos of suspected child pornography.  The IP address was associated with a residence located in the 1500 block of Schuylkill Avenue, Reading, Berks County, Pennsylvania.

On May 7, 2020, Detectives executed a search warrant at this Schuylkill Avenue residence. The defendant was present and confirmed this was his permanent residence.

As a result of the search warrant, Detectives seized a number of electronic devices during the search.

A forensic examination was conducted on all the electronic devices and yielded numerous digital images/videos of child pornography.

On June 24, 2020, Detectives filed criminal charges against the defendant, Matthew Kaucher, at Magisterial District Judge Alvin Robinson’s Office and an arrest warrant was issued.

At approximately 2:00 P.M., the defendant surrendered to the Berks County Detective’s Office. He was immediately taken into custody and escorted to the Central Processing Center, where he will be fingerprinted and photographed.

As in every criminal case, the fact that an arrest occurred or a complaint has been filed is merely an accusation, and the defendant Matthew Kaucher, is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
