CHILD SEXUAL ABUSE - FORTE

DEFENDANT:    Joseph Michael Forte (44 years old)

CHARGES:   Indecent Assault  
                      Endangering Welfare of Children
                      Corruption of Minors
 
DETAILS OF INCIDENT:
 
On March 10, 2019, Colebrookdale Township Police Department (now the Eastern Berks Regional Police Department) responded to a residence on North Reading Avenue for a report of a 6-year-old female who was alleged to have been sexually assaulted.
 
The victim disclosed to the officer on scene that, while sleeping on the couch, she was awakened by the defendant who placed his hand inside her underwear and touched her private. After learning the police were called, the defendant fled the residence.
 
Colebrookdale Township Police Department filed a ChildLine report and contacted the detectives with the Berks County District Attorney’s Office.
 
On March 11, 2019, detectives interviewed the victim’s mother, who said the victim disclosed to her that the defendant touched her private.  The mother confronted the defendant and reported that the defendant asked the victim “why did you go tell.”
 
On March 12, 2019, a forensic interview with the victim was conducted at the Children’s Alliance Center (CAC). The victim disclosed she had been sleeping on the couch and the defendant did a bad thing to her.
 
The victim subsequently disclosed that she woke up because the defendant was touching her private. The victim disclosed the defendant touched her private area with his hand under her clothing.
 
On March 23, 2019, detectives conducted another interview with the mother. The mother disclosed receiving text messages from the defendant that read “I don’t know what is wrong with me” and “I never wished of hurting her”
 
On July 1, 2020, Detectives filed criminal charges against the defendant, Joseph Michael Forte, at Magisterial District Judge Michael G. Hartman’s Office and an arrest warrant was issued.
 
On July 1, 2020, the defendant was apprehended by the Upper Pottsgrove Police Department without incident. Berks County Detectives transported him back to Berks County where he was arraigned by Magisterial District Judge Kyley Scott.  Bail was set at $150,000 and the defendant was transported to Berks County Jail.
 
The defendant is already a Megan’s Law lifetime registrant.
 
As in every criminal case, the fact that an arrest occurred or a complaint has been filed is merely an accusation, and the defendant Joseph Michael Forte, is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
