Late in the evening on March 09, 2020, the Northern Berks Regional Police Department contacted the Berks County District Attorney’s Detectives Unit relative to an unidentified person found deceased inside a mobile home.
The Northern Berks Regional Police Department along with fire companies from Temple, Leesport, Blandon and Walnuttown responded to a mobile home residential fire at 9 Boyer Lane, Ontelaunee, Berks County, Pennsylvania.
After the fire was contained, an unidentified person was found inside the mobile home. Detectives with the Berks County District Attorney’s Office who responded took over the investigation.
The Berks County Coroner’s Office along with the Pennsylvania State Police (PSP) – Fire Marshall were also called and responded to the scene to assist in the investigation.
The cause and origin of the fire is pending at this time.
On March 11, 2020, an autopsy was performed by Forensic Pathologist, Dr. Neil Hoffman, inside the Research Laboratory at the Reading Hospital and Medical Center. Based on the examination of the victim’s body along with the pathological results of the autopsy, there was no evidence of trauma. However, the final ruling is pending additional testing and toxicology results.
The victim has been positively identified as (86) eighty-six-year-old Robert H. Wheeler who was the sole resident and occupant of Boyer Lane, at the time of the fire.
As soon as the Berks County Detectives receive final rulings from the PSP Fire Marshall and Berks County Coroner’s Office, our office will provide additional updates.
