DETAILS OF INCIDENT:
On January 28, 2021, the Berks County Detective’s Office received a Childline Referral from the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, Department of Human Services, relative to the sexual abuse of a victim who was identified as a (12) twelve-year-old female.
Additionally, the Berks County Detective’s Office received a report from a Police Department, after the victim’s mother along with the (12) twelve-year-old victim, reported the sexual abuse to this law enforcement agency.
The alleged perpetrator was identified as the mother’s boyfriend, Manuel Molina-Nunez.
The Berks County Detective’s Office initiated a criminal investigation, which yielded the following information:
On February 16, 2021, a Forensic Interview was conducted at the Children’s Alliance Center. During this interview, the victim disclosed and provided specific details related to the sexual abuse which started when she was approximately (9) nine years old.
Based on the information provided by the victim, the Detectives determined the sexual abuse occurred between January 2017 and October 2019, inside a residence located in the 100 block of S. 12th Street, Reading, Berks County, Pennsylvania.
The offenses occurred while the defendant was in a caretaking role, providing care and supervision of the (12) twelve-year-old victim.
On May 6, 2021, the Berks County Detective’s Office filed criminal charges against the defendant, Manuel Molina-Nunez, at Magisterial District Judge Tonya Butler’s office.
M.D.J. Butler issued an arrest warrant for the defendant.
On May 6, 2021, at approximately 2:50 P.M., Berks County Detectives apprehended the defendant inside a residence located in the 600 block of N. 9th Street, Reading. The defendant was taken into custody and immediately transported to the Central Processing Center where he was released into the custody of the Berks County Sheriff’s Department.
The defendant was fingerprinted and photographed.
M.D.J. Andrea Book presided over the video Preliminary Arraignment and she set bail at $25,000.00. The defendant was committed to Berks County Jail pending a Preliminary Hearing which will be held at a later date.
As in every criminal case, the fact that an arrest occurred or a complaint has been filed is merely an accusation, and the defendant Manuel Molina-Nunez, is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
