Sexual Abuse & Unlawful Contact With A Child

DETAILS OF INCIDENT:
 
On December 10, 2019, the Berks County Detective’s Office received a Childline Referral from the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, Department of Human Services, relative to the sexual abuse of a child victim who was identified as an (11) eleven-year-old female.
 
The Berks County Detective’s Office initiated a criminal investigation, which yielded the following information:
 
On January 22, 2020, a Forensic Interview was conducted at the Children’s Alliance Center. During this Forensic Interview, the victim disclosed the defendant, identified as Austin Lewis Quigg, had sexual contact with her in the past, at various locations within the City of Reading.
 
The victim also disclosed that they exchanged photos, messages and videos which were sexually explicit. She also stated that she met the defendant at the playground located at North 11th & Pike Streets, City of Reading.
 
The sexual offenses and unlawful communications occurred between June 2019 and January 2020.
 
On January 28, 2020, the Berks County Detective’s Office filed criminal charges against the defendant, Austin Lewis Quigg, at Magisterial District Judge Tonya A. Butler’s Office and an arrest warrant was issued for the defendant.
 
On January 28, 2020, at approximately 3:30 P.M., Austin Lewis Quigg, surrendered to the Berks County Detectives, accompanied by his attorney. He was immediately escorted to the Central Processing Center which is located in the Berks County Courthouse and released into the custody of the Berks County Sheriff’s Department.
 
The defendant was fingerprinted and photographed.
 
A Preliminary Arraignment was held via video before Magisterial District Judge Thomas Gauby Sr. Bail was set at $25,000.00 straight and the defendant was committed to Berks County Jail.
 
As in every criminal case, the fact that an arrest occurred or a complaint has been filed is merely an accusation, and the defendant Austin Lewis Quigg is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
