DETAILS OF INCIDENT:
On Tuesday, October 1, 2019, the Berks County Detective’s Office received a total of (5) five Childline Referrals from the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, Department of Human Services, which identified at least (3) three different females who were victims of sexual abuse.
Additionally, the Berks County Detective’s Office received a report from the Reading Police Department, which contained specific details and information after the victims filed their initial complaint with that agency. The suspect was positively identified as Jose Antonio Baez-Valle.
On Thursday, October 3, 2019, Victim #1 (32-year-old female) reported that when she was approximately (7) seven or (8) eight years old, which was around 1994-1995, the defendant sexually assaulted her inside a residence located in the 900 block of Liggett Avenue, Reading, Pennsylvania. She also disclosed that he performed sexual acts in her presence.
On Thursday, October 3, 2019, Victim #2 (27-year-old female) reported that when she was approximately (9) nine or (10) ten years old, which was around 2001-2002, the defendant sexually assaulted her inside a residence located in the 1000 block of Scott Street, Reading, Pennsylvania. She also disclosed that he performed sexual acts in her presence.
On Tuesday, November 19, 2019, Victim #3 (38-year-old female) reported that when she was approximately (12) twelve to (14) fourteen years old, which was around 1993-1995, the defendant sexually assaulted her inside the residences located in the 400 block of W. Oley Street and the 900 block of Liggett Avenue, Reading, Pennsylvania.
On Tuesday, February 18, 2020, the Berks County Detective’s Office filed criminal charges against the defendant, Jose Antonio Baez-Valle, at Magisterial District Judge Stuart D. Kennedy’s Office and an arrest warrant was issued for the defendant.
On Thursday, February 20, 2020, at approximately 4:30 P.M., members of the Berks County Detectives Office took the defendant into custody at his residence. The defendant was transported to the Central Processing Center located at the Berks County Courthouse and released into the custody of the Berks County Sheriff’s Department.
The defendant was fingerprinted and photographed.
A Preliminary Arraignment was held via video and bail was set at $100,000.00 by Magisterial District Judge Thomas Xavios. The defendant was committed to Berks County Jail.
As in every criminal case, the fact that an arrest occurred or a complaint has been filed is merely an accusation, and the defendant Jose Antonio Baez-Valle is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
