DETAILS OF INCIDENT:
On November 16, 2020, the Berks County Detective’s Office received a Childline Referral from the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, Department of Human Services, relative to the sexual abuse of a victim who was identified as a (15) fifteen-year-old female.
The alleged perpetrator was identified as a (40) forty-year-old male.
The Berks County Detective’s Office initiated a criminal investigation, which yielded the following information:
On November 24, 2020, a Forensic Interview was conducted at the Children’s Alliance Center. During this interview, the victim disclosed and provided specific details related to the sexual abuse which occurred on (2) two separate occasions in October 2020. Both incidents occurred inside the defendant’s residence located in the City of Reading.
The victim positively identified the defendant, Nicholas Roman Jr., as the person who sexually abused her. Additionally, the defendant made threats that she better not tell anyone, provided her Marijuana, and sent her sexually explicit text messages.
The offenses occurred while the defendant was in a caretaking role, providing care and supervision of the (15) fifteen-year-old victim.
On December 14, 2020, the Berks County Detective’s Office filed criminal charges against the defendant, Nicholas Roman Jr., at Magisterial District Judge Alvin Robinson’s Office.
M.D.J. Robinson issued an arrest warrant for the defendant.
On December 15, 2020, at approximately 9:30 A.M., the defendant surrendered by reporting to the Berks County Detective’s Office. The defendant was immediately taken into custody and escorted down to the Central Processing Center where he was released into the custody of the Berks County Sheriff’s Department.
The defendant was fingerprinted and photographed.
Bail was set at $30,000 and he currently remains free awaiting further court action.
As in every criminal case, the fact that an arrest occurred or a complaint has been filed is merely an accusation, and the defendant Nicholas Roman Jr., is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
