Homicide Investigation - Exeter Township
DETAILS OF INCIDENT:
On Monday, December 14, 2020, at approximately 10:44 P.M., Berks County Department of Emergency Services received a 911 call from a male at a residence located on Hillside Road, Reading (Exeter Township), Berks County, Pennsylvania.
The male caller handed the telephone to a female who reported there had been an accident, that a male has a cut to his chest, and he is not breathing.
At approximately 10:46 P.M., the 911 call taker dispatched both Emergency Medical Services and Exeter Township Police Officers to this Hillside Road residence, which is a single home in a residential neighborhood.
The first Police Officer arrived at the scene shortly afterwards, entered the residence and was directed to the 2nd floor bathroom. Upon entering the bathroom, the Police Officer located a male who was unresponsive, lying on the bathroom floor. EMS personnel also arrived at the scene and determined the male was deceased.
The victim, described as a (35) thirty-five year old male, had a penetrating wound to the left side of his chest.
The Berks County Detective’s Office was notified, and a team of Detectives responded to the Exeter Township residence.
The Berks County Detectives have partnered with the Exeter Township Police Department and are conducting a joint investigation, which also includes the Berks County District Attorney’s Forensic Services Unit, who also responded to process the crime scene.
The Berks County Coroner’s Office is in the process of notifying the victim’s next of kin.
An Autopsy will be performed today at 5:00 P.M. at the Research Laboratory located at the Reading Hospital and Medical Center. (Tower Health)
At this time, we are in the very early stages of this joint investigation and as more information is developed and the investigation progresses, we will provide additional updates.
The Berks County District Attorney’s Office states there is no threat or danger to the neighborhood or community, that the investigation thus far confirms that this is an isolated incident.
UPDATE - December 18, 2020
On Tuesday, December 15, 2020, at approximately 5:00 p.m., Forensic Pathologist Dr. Supriya Kuruvilla conducted an Autopsy on the victim. Based on her examination and the results of the Autopsy, Dr. Kuruvilla concluded the Cause of Death was due to a "single stab wound of chest".
The Berks County Coroner's Office ruled the Manner of Death as Homicide.
The Homicide investation remains active and ongoing.
